Last week I was speaking at a sales retreat for a company.
I got there a few minutes early so I stood in the back and listened to the other speaker, who is also a sales trainer.
All of a sudden I started to get REALLY nervous. He had energy, he was charismatic, they were engaged, and he ended with a powerful video that we actually show clients as well.
Can you imagine the thoughts going through my head?
- • Why didn’t I bring a video?
- • How are they going to introduce me?
- • Should I start off with a joke?
- • How did I get scheduled between the keynote and lunch?
- • Does my outfit look okay?!
- • I hope my flip charts don’t fall down.
This reaction isn’t unique to me...you do it too. Instead of seeing success, we self-sabotage with all the “what ifs.”
At that very moment, I made a decision to “get my head back in the game.” I started telling myself affirmations that supported my success. I put my shoulders back and left it all on the field.
We all need a reminder to:
- • Get out of your own way
- • Be careful what we tell ourselves.
- • Check and change our perspective.
- • See success.
